Let’s quickly recap on what calories actually are for those who may be unsure…
Calories are simply a measure of energy. Your body breaks down food, and uses it’s energy to do whatever it likes.
The amount of calories you need to get through the day will vary depending on a whole range of things. Remember, shopping, singing, typing and even eating all require energy to do.
Over time, if you don’t burn as much energy as you take in, your body is smart and will begin to store the extra energy as fat ready to use at a later date. The longer this goes on for, the more fat the body will store.
In order to stop this from happening, you’d need to either reduce the amount of calories you’re eating, or increase the amount of energy your body is using!
When your body isn’t getting as much energy as it requires (a calorie deficit), it decides to call on your fat stores for energy. Over a period of time, your body burns through it’s fat stores leaving you looking and feeling slimmer.
